Focusing heavily on delivering higher education, complimentary and natural synergies exist for collaboration between AWF and FISU. FISU (Federation International Sport Universities) consists of almost 15,000 students from over 250 universities around the world, will participate in FISU events in 2013. In 2014, 28 single sport world championships will attract 5,000 students from over 100 countries.

The AWF dual career pathway adds value to the existing FISU proposition, encouraging more athletes to remain in their home countries to study and compete. Vice President Ash Smith stated “having the student athlete remain in their home country for study ultimately maximises the possibility of them competing at the FISU games. We plan to collaborate with FISU to assist in the overall development of these areas, whilst continuing to contribute towards the academic development of the athletes”.

AWF and FISU will continue discussions for collaboration in September 2013 following the conclusion of a busy Summer University period for FISU.
